Jennifer Clarke Featured in Boston: Inspirational Women

Fishing captain and singer-songwriter Jennifer Clarke has been featured in the book, Boston: Inspirational Women by Bill and Kerry Brett.
More information on the book from
Longtime Boston Globe photographer Bill Brett and his daughter, Kerry, who also photographs notables and celebrities about [Boston], gave us an early look at portraits that will appear in their new book, “Boston: Inspirational Women….’’ The collection of images, which includes a foreword by Hill Holliday’s Karen Kaplan and text by former Globe writer Carol Beggy, features unique shots of Boston A-listers such as Hyde Park-bred actress Maura Tierney, Bill Belichick’s girlfriend, Linda Holliday, rocker Kay Hanley, funny lady Rachel Dratch, WGBH’s Callie Crossley, and do-gooder Carolyn Mugar. Bill and Kerry dedicated the book to Beggy, who was treated for cancer while writing copy for the project. Inspiring indeed.
The Jennifer Clarke feature reads:

She is an in-demand commercial fishing captain, a world-class angler, and a successful singer-songwriter. All of which means Jennifer Clarke doesn’t easily fit into any one category. But on Martha’s Vineyard, where people thrive by juggling several careers, she fits right in. Jen is married to actor-comedian Lenny Clarke (who ably served as Kerry Brett’s photography assistant, making sure Kerry didn’t fall off the boat as Jen’s portrait was taken). As can be seen in this photograph with the Gay Head Cliffs in the background, Jen takes great comfort from and is fully at ease on the water. She runs Captain Clarke Charters out of Menemsha and is often booked for trips months in advance. Jen got her start fishing as a four year old in the freshwater streams of the Shenandoah Valley. A native of Delaplane, Virginia, Jen comes from a family of avid trout fly fishermen and has tested her angling skills around the world. Her Virginia roots have also played a role in developing Jen’s musical style. She has worked as a songwriter in Nashville, where part of her More Than I Have album was recorded. “Mr. Pain,” a track from that release, was used in actor-comedian (and friend) Denis Leary’s FX series Rescue Me.
A hearty thank you to Bill and Kerry Brett for featuring Jennifer Clarke in Boston: Inspirational Women.
